Steady on your feet, at home.
Balance and strength physio in your own home, with a home-safety check and a written exercise plan.
How does physio help with falls and balance?
The short answer
Physio works on the things that make falls more likely: weaker legs, unsteady balance, slower reactions and hazards around the house. Yoshiki checks your strength, balance and walking, looks at your stairs, bathroom and paths, and leaves you with a written balance and strength program you can do safely at home.
Who it helps.
- You've had a fall, or a near miss
- You feel unsteady, or worry about falling
- You hold on to furniture to get around the house
- You've been told you have osteoporosis
- Your family has noticed you're less steady
What a visit involves.
- A talk about any falls or near misses, and what you want to keep doing
- Balance, strength and walking checks, using standard tests we can repeat to measure progress
- A look at your stairs, bathroom, lighting and paths, with practical changes
- A written program of balance and strength exercises, and practice getting up from the floor where it suits you
Why at home?
Balance is best trained where you'll use it. We practise on the step at your back door, the turn in your hallway and getting in and out of your favourite chair, so the exercises fit your real day.
Paying for it.
Private visits from $120, with health fund rebates claimed on the spot. These can help pay too:
Common questions.
No. Many people start because they feel less steady or have had a near miss. Starting early gives you more time to build strength and balance.
Mostly balance and leg-strength exercises you can do safely at home, holding a kitchen bench or a sturdy chair. They're written down and changed as you improve.
Yes. We look at stairs, rails, rugs, lighting, the bathroom and the path outside, and suggest simple changes. If you need equipment such as grab rails, we'll tell you who can help, such as an occupational therapist.
